Volcano Aso

One of the world's largest calderas, about 25 km across, in central Kyushu, with some 50,000 people living on its floor. Nakadake crater inside it erupts frequently and its gas often closes the crater area to visitors; the magnitude 7.0 Kumamoto earthquake of 2016 ruptured right into the caldera.
