Flores Island & Banda Arc

The Flores Back-Arc Thrust runs just north of Flores and was the source of the devastating December 1992 earthquake (M7.8) and tsunami that claimed over 2,500 lives. Back-arc thrusting here accommodates convergence where subduction locks.
