Volcano Semeru

Java's highest mountain and one of Indonesia's most persistently active volcanoes, puffing out small ash plumes almost daily for decades. In December 2021 a collapse at the summit sent pyroclastic flows down the Besuk Kobokan valley, burying villages and killing more than 50 people.
